I’m very excited to announce the June dates of my ‘Become a Personal Shopper’ 4 day course, which will take place in The Centre:MK.

Personal shopping is a lucrative industry - and it’ll be the dream job for those of you who have a passion for fashion and can ‘shop ‘til you drop’!

The course will run from the 12th - 15 of June. Timing wise, we will meet at 10am and wrap up at 2pm each day - perfect for any of you who have a school run to work around.

We will have a fabulous 4 days together. It’ll be fun and bursting with information!

Take a look at what we will cover together:

Day 1- We will learn about the variety of body shapes and style personalities, recognising how these will underpin the clothing and accessories you will need to select for your future clients

Day 2 - We take a deep dive into the vast selection of clothing brands and how to utilise this knowledge to ensure a focused and efficient shopping experience for our clients

Day 3 - We consider how we can understand our clients needs and exceed their expectations, through detailed discussion, the creation of moodboards and conducting a pre-shop

Day 4 - We put our newly acquired skills to the test - by hitting the shops with a specific client in mind. By the end of today you will have successfully selected a range of garments that meet a clients requirements, whilst providing personalised advice throughout the shopping experience. A glass of bubbly will be awaiting us in the Harrods champagne bar, where we will celebrate your successful completion of the course, and toast the start of an exciting new career!

Is there a celebrity whose style inspires you?

Whilst it’s important to be authentic and true to ourselves, it’s okay to tap in to a style visual that appeals to us. In fact, it can be really helpful! Just remember to put your own twist on it - or it can feel like fancy dress.

Look at what they wear, and consider what you love about it. Is it the colours, the shapes, the textures. Which style elements feel repeated? For example.. Do they always wear chunky framed glasses? Are they never without their red lipstick? Do they seem to live in their Doc Martens?

It can be helpful to search for images of the celebrity on Pinterest for further inspiration. Perhaps you already own the staple pieces from ‘their look’? Or could you tweak the way you wear items within your wardrobe to create it. When you hit the shops, ask yourself ‘is this something they’d want to buy’?

Before you hit the January sales, here are 5 tips.. or should I say 5 things which you should consider taking with you to ensure your shop is as successful as it can be.

1. Any items within your wardrobe that you’re not wearing because you ‘don’t have anything to wear it with’! Now is your chance to finally find the missing pieces to enable you to form multiple outfits from those currently redundant pieces within your wardrobe.

2. A pair of heels that you’d typically wear on a night out. Don’t try to imagine how fabulous the dress you try on will look on at that cocktail bar.. when your standing there with your pop socks on! You’ll also be able to establish whether any trousers you’d typically wear with heels with are the right length or not.

3. A strapless bra for trying on those items that you’d usually wear one with. In fact, whilst we are on the subject of underwear.. Is it time you invested in some perfectly fitting sets? They’ll do wonders for your confidence, posture and silhouette.

4. Your shopping list. Creating your shopping list prior to hitting the shops will bring you awareness of what you actually need. Do try to stick to the list whilst shopping to avoid the lure of those enticing items you really don’t need - your bank balance will thank you!

5. Me! I’ve shopped for many ladies over my years as a Personal Stylist - with a 100% success rate! Not only will I remind you to stick to your list and budget, but I’ll pull out the perfect pieces that work with your colouring and body shape too. 1) Fabric and

Opt for sumptuous fabrics such as velvet, satin, silk or lace. This will really take your ‘look’ up a notch making it feel a bit more special.

If you still want a bit of shimmer, opt for metallic gold or silver fabrics. And, of course, wearing red or green will always give a nod to the season!

Her colouring was deep, so looks best in a combination of deep colours. The deep colours which are also warm and bright are particularly striking on her. She just so happened to be wearing an outfit that contained a selection of her most flattering colours.. doesn’t she look fabulous!

Do you see Borg and think ‘bulk’? You’re not wrong because the properties of it are soft, thick and plush, and can therefore add pounds to your frame. Of course the colder weather is primarily about wrapping up and keeping warm, but you want to remain stylish right (of course you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be following my page!).

Here are two jackets that are currently in Marks & Spencer. The white one is typical Borg. With its fuzzy, wool-like texture, it will insulate you against the cold… and also make you look bigger than you are. Not always a bad thing! Some of us strive to add shape to our lean bodies. Sizing within shops has altered significantly since the 1980s when brands stepped away from universal sizing, preferring to bring sizing and fit strategies in-house. Vanity sizing has become common practice within the fashion industry, with many brands strategically labelling clothing with sizes smaller than their actual fit, aware of the psychological impact that shoppers are more likely to buy these items in celebration of ‘fitting into a smaller size’.

While the practice of vanity sizing is relatively widespread, most examples occur in the UK and America, where shoppers bodies have grown larger over the years.‍ A size 10 pair of jeans purchased today would be larger than the same size pair of jeans purchased even as little as five years ago, despite being made by the same manufacturer.

Vanity sizes has become more problematic in recent times with the rise of online shopping. With shoppers buying before trying, they discover more often than not, clothing is delivered which doesn’t fit. This leads to a high number of returns furthering the fashion industry’s negative impact upon the planet. Not only does the manufacturing and transportation of clothing have a detrimental effect upon the environment, but many of the returned items are destined for landfill.

With sizing becoming increasingly erratic, I’d always recommend trying clothes on in store before making any purchases. The sizes in labels, should be seen as a rough guide and nothing more. If ordering items online, I’d suggest using a dressmaker’s measuring tape to compare your bodies measurements against the garments size guide (usually found within the items description).

You know I love a charity shop! I’ve picked up some real gems in there over the years. But aside from grabbing a bargain, it’s really important to slow down when it comes to shopping habits and make steps to become more sustainable 🤔

The fashion industry is impacting our climate - it’s one of the worlds biggest causes of pollution.

The production and transportation of clothes, combined with a throwaway culture leaving millions of clothes in landfill every year, results in a huge problem for our planet.

By recirculating our clothes – buying, wearing and donating second hand, we can help to reduce the demand and damage! ♻️
